Brief Summary
My work and research goal is to someday forget about finetuning in new domains. I currently work in the space industry designing Earth Observation and Vision-Based Navigation algorithms. I’m currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science and Telecommunications, if you want to know a bit more about it click here.
Work Experience
2017-Present: Computer Vision Engineer at Elecnor Deimos
My work has dealt with designing vision algorithms that can run fast onboard satellites and that still work when deployed over unseen domains. Some of my work includes:
- How to overcome the domain gap in spacecraft/satellite pose estimation from monocular images. Our solution ranked 2nd in both tracks of the Spacecraft 2021 Pose Estimation Challenge organised by the European Space Agency.
- Design efficient pipelines for onboard satellite image product generation, from the raw data to L1C. Some of them about to fly.
- Predicting storms onboard the satellite – EO-ALERT project. Co-designed efficient algorithms that use multispectral geostationary data to detect extreme weather events. This included created a dataset that fuses satellite imagery and predictions from radar weather data.
- Process UAV data from solar power plants to automatically detect faults. This includes fusing information from unaligned thermal and optical data.
- Other problems not related to vision: How to learn controllers for rocket landing with guarantees. Register AIS data to onboard vessel detections using deformable point registration
- Co-directed three MSc thesis on the use of vision for rover navigation and self-supervised learning of monocular depth estimation robust to different camera intrinsic.
- Reviewer for Q1 journals: IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology
